UNITED STATES:

BOSTON, MA (June 2002)

We established the first domestic FabLab site at the Flagship Computer Clubhouse at the Boston's Museum of Science. The Clubhouse members use the 3D modeling tools in the FabLab to machine/mill/print copies of objects that they have created for their short films and animations.

WASHINGTON, DC (Fall 2003)

We are planning a new FabLab in our Nation's capital, aimed at meeting the needs of local communities, as well as policy-makers.

COSTA RICA:

CARTAGO (July 2002)

We established the first international FabLab on the edge of the campus of the Costa Rica Institute of Technology -- called TEC for short -- to serve the needs of the students from local public Technical and Scientific High Schools. TEC students act as mentors to high schools students on their design projects.

INDIA:

VIGYAN ASHRAM, near PABAL in MAHARASHTRA (August 2002)

Our second international site is located at Vigyan Ashram, a small educational community, just outside of Pabal village in Maharashtra, India. The Diesel Engine meter is one example of the types of projects done at this FabLab, which have an economic impact on the life of the local community.

KANPUR (December 2002)

Our third international site is located on the campus of the India Institute of Technology -- called IIT for short -- Kanpur, India. This site serves a local community of artists with new tools for making molds for making new Chilkan Blocks, which are then used to create fabrics with novel Chikan designs.

NORWAY:

SOLVIK GÅRD in TROMSØ (June 2003)

Our fourth international site is on the Solvik Gård community in Tromsø, Norway. Farmers, in collaboration with engineers from Telenor and UPM-Kymmene, a sheep radio for tracking sheep for their entire life cycle, from birth to market.
