Fab Lab Opening
June 20, 2003 You are invited to the opening of a fab lab at Solvik Gård by MIT's Center for Bits and Atoms, in partnership with Telenor and UPM-Kymmene. The fab lab program complement basic research on "personal fabrication" by bringing into the field the means for developing and producing locally-appropriate advanced technologies. By making accessible the engineering of space (down to microns, through micromachining) and time (down to microseconds, through RISC microcontrollers), these labs enable the application of capabilities including embedded sensing, distributed communications, analytical instrumentation, and mechanical design and modeling. This site will be targeted at the needs of nomadic herders, including tagging, tracking, and monitoring animals throughout their lifecycle. The program on the 20th is:
